Xeriscape gardens for Interior summers
Zeroscape projects, rock gardens, mulch gardens. We build low-water yards that belong in Merritt — not a strip of rock with one sad shrub.
Merritt is not the Coast. Lawns that look like Vancouver in July are expensive, thirsty, and often against watering rules. Xeriscape — zeroscape projects, rock gardens, mulch gardens — is the honest answer: design the yard so it lives on little water and still reads as a finished garden.
We combine gravel, placed rock, and mulch with plants that actually survive Nicola Valley heat, then water them with drip instead of a sprinkler blasting the sidewalk. The goal is a yard you are proud of in August, not a dust bowl and not a second job.

How the job runs
01
Needs, wants, and budget
We walk the yard and talk it through: how you use the door and driveway, how much water you actually want to fuss with, the look you like — zeroscape, rock, mulch — and what the budget can carry. You get a plan that fits all three, not a wish list.
02
Proper prep, details first
Grading, edges, fabric, and the drip layout before a single rock goes down. The details — where gravel meets the walk, how water leaves the bed, the line of the timber — are what keep it looking finished instead of like a dump of stone.
03
Install with care
Materials and plants go in to the design: boulders placed, gravel and mulch at the right depth, Interior-tough plants set and watered in. Properly designed, not a weekend scatter of rock.
Questions we get
Is xeriscape just rock and no plants?
That’s the cheap version, and it looks cheap. We design planted xeriscape: rock and mulch as the structure, plants as the living part. You still get colour and movement.
Do you do rock gardens and mulch gardens as well?
Yes — they’re part of this work. Placed boulders, dry creeks, crushed-rock mulch, and timber-edged mulch beds all sit under xeriscape. Tell us which look you want.
Will it survive watering restrictions?
That’s the point. Once plants are established, drip uses a fraction of a lawn. We pick species that are already used to dry Interior summers.
Can you convert an existing lawn?
Yes. We strip or kill the turf, fix the grade, then build the new garden on a proper base so weeds don’t just come back through the gravel.
